I quickly did some searching and found these tips on Top Tips For Girls.
1.)Very carefully flick some water into the oil, if it sizzles immediately, it's ready.
2.)Place cube of bread in the oil. When it sizzles, it's ready.
3.)Put a popcorn kernel in the oil. When it pops, the oil is between 350 and 365.
4.)Place the end of a wooden spoon in the oil. When the bubbles surround it, it's ready. The more bubbles, the better/hotter the oil. Just remember to only use wooden spoon, plastic could melt.
I opted for the water test. I don't think my oil was quite yet hot enough. It took longer to fry my chicken. Also keep in mind when you add whatever you're frying into the oil it will drop the temperature at least 25 degrees.
